Mr. Bret Stephens wants to buy Pakistani nuke"s (WSJ, Dec. 16, 2008) offering a handsome sum of $100 billion and in case buying is not an option I suggest a coalition of America, NATO, Israel, Russia and India to destroy all Pakistan"s nuclear assets. For Pakistani army and the ruling elites the nuclear assets are for blackmailing global powers each time Pakistani lashkar or irregular elements are caught in acts of terrorism planned in collaboration with al Qaeda and Taliban leadership.
For many pundits and ruling elites in Pakistan
. Practical politics consists in ignoring facts or
. Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it, misdiagnosing it, and then misapplying the wrong remedies.
. There"s no trick to being a terrorist when the infallible class of clerics, ruling warlord, and media pundits are working for you.
PM of India, Dr. M. Singh, an economist is also trying to exploit Pakistan"s economic trouble by applying political and economic pressures while keeping open an option of attacking terrorist organizations within Pakistan.
For effective actions, as America has shown, the trick is to politically force Pakistani army to neutralize Pakistan"s many lashkars or irregular forces, al Qaeda and Taliban operations. The lashkars were intended to be Pakistan"s first line of defense but during last decade or so under al Qaeda and Taliban guidance they have become its offensive forces to ferment proxy wars and insurgencies in South Asia.
Lesson"s of Mumbai mayhem
A next potential global power - India - as of now, security wise is woefully under developed with more than 70% of its local police forces equipped with no more than lathis or sticks and rest with World War I vintage 303 rifles, which is no match for Pakistani lashkars or for that matter nuclear armed Pakistani army with its soldiers carrying AK 47.
Not long ago Pakistani army used to brag that each Pakistani soldier was better than 10 Indian soldiers. Mumbai mayhem showed that ten lashkar commandos can hijack a city of 17 to 20 million for several days, which should be enough time for a first world army to stage an invasion of India.
India was not much different in terms of the defensive powers about 1,060 years ago and it was ripe for colonization by Muslims from central and north Eurasia.
May be one of the lessons of Mumbai mayhem is that it is time for Pakistani lashkars with highly trained commandos along with nuclear and modern weapons armed army to just make its move to conquer India and solve the South Asia"s political problems. Given that historically wars in South Asia have lasted less than four weeks, may be Pakistani army can complete occupation of India in less than four weeks.
Here are few additional points to consider for those dominated by ideology.
Religion and Mumbai Mayhem
Simply put, the Mumbai mayhem, attacks on India"s parliament, train bombings in London and Spain, and the 9/11 attacks on America kind of murderous violence may stop when all the good people in Pakistan, including the community elders and spiritual leaders who want a decent future for their country declare, as a collective that those who carry out such murders are shameful unbelievers who will not dance with virgins in heaven but burn in hell. And they do it with the same vehemence with which they had denounced Danish cartoons on Feb. 6, 2006.
Monotheism
Basically Judaism is original monotheism. Monotheistic religious coin has two sides. One is God of "laws, rewards and punishment" that privileged class - warlords, pundits and clerics - follow and other side is God of "love, mercy and forgiveness" that masses - disadvantaged class - prefer.
The Ideology:
All religions incorporate certain social, cultural, political and economic norms. After conversion, Roman Catholics continued with Roman practice of extraterritorial expansion for economic prosperity. Muslims adopted monotheism and combined it with Arab tribal norms to pursue global domination through medieval times. Both Roman Catholics and Muslims unleashed death and destruction on non-believers and both so far have failed to totally dominate globe. The viability of uncertainty principle makes it impossible for followers of any one religion to eliminate non-believers.
South Asian Muslims have ignored South Asian norms and instead they practice medieval Arab tribal norms. This is a source of their identity crisis.
For decades America has promoted Pakistan as a front-line state by providing economic and military aid, ignoring nuclear capability Pakistan was developing largely through a combination of industrial theft, systematic violation of Western export controls, and a blueprint of a weapon from China.
Is a coalition of global powers ready to neutralize Pakistan"s nuclear assets to inhibit it from continuing with failed medieval practice of global domination and prepare it to live with 21st century norms?
Medieval vs 21st Century Norms
In medieval practices privileged few enjoy luxuries on earth, masses continue to toil and live a materially miserable life and a select few are promised virgins to dance with in heaven if they die for causes promoted by clerics, pundits and warlords - the infallible class.
In developed democracies with free market economy as in America or a semi-socialist political environment as in Western Europe a vast majority has an opportunity to generate wealth and live a better material life through knowledge and skills globally in demand.
People in all societies follow a faith and in multi-ethnic, multi-religious democratic society people of different faiths learn to accept and respect each others beliefs for most part. Unlike Muslim majority Islamic nations, they are tolerant of people of different faith.
Present Reality
In last 50 years I have not seen intensity in American media reporting terrorism in India as they are doing with Mumbai mayhem since Nov. 26, 2008. Mumbai mayhem may be an opportunity Americans and NATO were looking for and we should know soon enough what the collateral damage will be.
If a war should break out pitting global powers against Pakistan chances are South Asia will be loser. A cornered Pakistan may suffer second dismemberment after it has a chance to drop one or more nuclear bombs on India. If it happens South Asia as we know it today may not exist for long.
So I ask again, no matter your faith, are we prepared to let Pakistan continue with failed medieval practice of mindless wars or will global powers take initiative to force Muslims to live in peace with 21st century norms
Pakistani Public Opinions
Concerned that Mumbai mayhem may result in India acting as America did since 2001, Pakistanis are expressing themselves. Average sane citizens are afraid of the price they may have to pay should India attack terrorist infrastructure along its eastern territory. The jingoistic media elites want to perpetuate denial of Pakistan"s complicity in Mumbai mayhem as has been the practice for last three decades or more in similar situations. The establishment warlords are suggesting that Pakistan should ignore potential American objections and relocate 100,000 troops deployed to neutralize non-state actors on its western front to its eastern front to counter potential Indian attacks.
Mumbai, a terrible event for India, may turn out to be an excuse for a coalition of America, NATO, Israel, India and Russia to neutralize terrorist all across Pakistan. The TV commentators who think potential to use WMDs is a viable option have yet to come to terms with an observation that warriors of "jihad" who may have been assets once upon a time are clear and present dangers.
The Mumbai attack is the latest wake-up call. What happened to Mumbai is a preview of what may happen to America and NATO nations if terrorist organizers based in Pakistan are not neutralized in time.
Is Pakistan ready to exorcise the ghosts of jihad?
The pundits who think Pakistan"s WMDs will stop a united global coalition to force the army and lashkars to abandon its jihad mentality are in denial. However as many sane commentators have pointed out a war is likely to be the end of South Asia as we know it today.
The argument to let America fight its own Afghan war and let the Taliban fight their own war of national resistance is a non-starter for many reasons. Taliban, both of Afghanistan and of Pakistan operate from Pakistan. Any fight Taliban engages in will take place in Pakistan, not across international borders to Pakistan"s east and west.
Mumbai mayhem brings into focus the Pakistani army"s operating practices: The Taliban of Pakistan, which includes LeT, JUD, JeM, etc are to be manipulated to fight the military"s war in Kashmir and the Taliban of Afghanistan are to be covertly and strategically supported to minimize the perceived Indian influence in the region. Both Taliban are lashkars or irregular forces created by the army to instigate insurgencies, proxy and civil wars. They were created to give deniability for violation of sovereignty of targeted nations.
The targets are India, Afghanistan, America, Israel and NATO nations.
A new administration will be in place in America in less than forty-five days. With a USA-Iraq treaty concluded, the withdrawal and redeployment to Afghanistan of American troops from Iraq should begin early next year. We will know soon enough how Pakistan responds to it and what American responses will be.
